Local artists

Why we remember them?

In this feature we remember the lancashire local artists who dedicated their lives to recording and inspiring a generation. All too often these people were not rewarded financially and often their work is scattered and lost to history.  Art is food for the soul and these people should be remembered and valued.

Our Artists-Freda Makin

I am proud to have met Freda and her husband Guy on a walk along Moor Lane, Whalley to Langho many years ago. I would then occasionally  see her with easel in Whalley painting a local scene. They lived at what was described as the oldest house in Whalley ( Sands cottage ). Freda was a masterful watercolour artist and her paintings rarely appear on the market. She would often sell at the Frames and Pictures gallery in Whalley and specialised often in miniature landscape paintings. A fantastically skillful artist worthy of note.
